Ive been teaching for 4 years total, 2 1/2 years post-CELTA. And I love teaching English and I really want to make a career out of it. So the next step is the DETLA, right? I know there are MAs but my undergrad degree is completely unrelated (Chemistry) and I really think I need a stepping stone. So Im set on the DELTA. But now that the new modular DELTA has come in, it seems to be more geared towards part time students. But I know what Im like as a student (bad) and a person (not much better) and I know that working and studying together wont work for me. I need to get my head down and get through this as quickly as possible. So my question is... has anyone taken the DELTA intensively in the last year? And can anyone recommend a centre where I can do it? |

MA is more theory.
DELTA is more practice.
I don't think it goes BA, DELTA, MA. I mean, that's not the only way. You can go for your MA even if your BA isn't in teaching.
As for centers, I'm not really sure. I thought of the DELTA, but coulnd't do it intensively. |

The fact that you can no longer do the DELTA or the Trinity College (London) Diploma in TESOL is somewhat annoying to say the least as everything now seems to be split up into different modules at different times, unless, perchance, one wanted to do the distance learning option which requires one to attend an intensive teaching period of between two and four weeks, depending upon through which organization one is studying for this qualification.
For example, Oxford TEFL, a British company, operates in Spain but offers students the opportunity to do two or four weeks of intensive study in Barcelona as part of the Trinity Diploma, but it is only a part.
The same goes with the Diploma programme offered by St George's International (SGI) in London.
I have never yet studied for either the DELTA or the Diploma, not even with eight years (so far) of TESOL experience under my belt, although, notwithstanding the fact that I do possess two master's degrees in education, which include the study of TESOL (albeit only from a theoretical basis, no practicum), I do not discount the possibility of doing one. In my current job, though, which I have been doing for over 4 1/2 years, I do not need to have one, nor does the need to have one exist.
I would probably do one if I were going to move on elsewhere, although that is not on the agenda at this time. |
