I do not believe that there is one single private college or high school that is any good.

I worked for the Kayseri school in 2002-2004. They were fair and I had no complaints about how I was treated. Contract was good and was honored. I left only because the city was driving me mental. I've heard the Ankara branch is quite good.

Well, 31, the main complaints I had were about the other foreigners, who were a pretty mixed bag. As for the school, they honored the contract and I was treated fairly. The kids were the usual Turkish maniacs at times (though not in the high school, so that year was better for me) but looking back, it was a pretty cushy deal (work hours were low, free housing, tons of paid holidays, nice directors, no mind games).

Kayseri is a really really conservative city in the middle of the country and the TED teachers were the only foreigners around. Men stared at me a lot and I got harrassed enough to feel frustrated and annoyed a lot. At the time you couldn't get anything foreign (food, books, etc) so in the long cold winters it could be pretty isolating. Since I left, it's changed a lot- the last time I was there, they'd added an Ozsut (cappuccinos! a place where not just old men could sit and smoke!) and a tramline to the city center (meaning it is no longer necessary to squeeze into a packed dolmus). Hell, there's probably a Starbucks by now. When I was there, it was just tea houses for men. Oh, and a Mc Donalds. That was a novelty Smile
