It's been a while sine I've posted here on Dave's. I've decided to get my MSE in ESL education and finish a minor in Chinese. I will be working in NYC public schools beginning the next school year but after the year is over I plan on returning to China to work at an International School (hopefully)for about three years. The trend in ESL in America is leaning towards bilingual education and I plan on teaching at a Chinese/English school at some point in the future. Just wondering about the International School job market for a MSE in TESOL with Certification from NYC as well as 3= years of classroom experience. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Kevin

The job market is good, and with those credentials, very good, in the big city where I live and teach, which is Shenzhen. Competition for bilingual/ international school jobs is also getting tighter, as more and more foreigners are moving to China.

I know of a university assistant professor and community college instructor with MA/JD degrees now teaching 3-6 year olds (kindy) at a local kids club school. He moved here with his wife (who has a teaching credential) and two kids. They wanted to teach at one of the International schools here, but there were no openings so they took the kindy gig. She's the director of the same school.

Just about anything is possible in ESL/EFL education in China, but the best teaching jobs at the top Int'l schools are harder to come by these days.

sounds like all "experts" should just rush to china, the great place of a rich 5,000 years old history where many great employers have sooo much to offer. Laughing

the job market in fact is so tight that many ch-employers hire all kinds of foreign experts. no, don't use me as an example, please as i came a bit before the sh*t hit the fan. yes, new regulations and chinese traditional minds set on their own goals have changed the job market around.

cheers and beers to some ethusiastic minds on forums that actually have such great experiences to tell Smile

I actually lived in SZ about two years ago with the CTLC program. I'm looking for an international school in a moderately big city. Basically, I want to be able to save some money and work on my Chinese; SZ isn't really a good place for the former. I'm looking at Hangzhou, Chengdu, Qingdao, and even Beijing. SZ is a great place just not for me at this point.
