|

Hi everyone! I'm new to the boards, but I've been applying to teach English abroad and doing tons of research for the last month or so. Last night I had an interview with EF English First based in Daqing, Heilongjiang. It went really well and the interviewers were both awesome and gave me a ton of great information, and they got me really excited about the position.
But I wanted to ask around and find out as much info as I can before I commit to anything, so I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with EF in Daqing, or could tell me anything about the city or province? I know EF doesn't have the best reputation everywhere, and I've read some negative things about them, but I feel like I can deal with any problems that might come up, plus the people I talked to were extremely helpful and we got along great, so I don't think there would be any problems there. I know that the area is pretty cold, but is there stuff to do and are there touristy things to see around there?
Any advice or suggestions would be much appreciated! |

here's some advice. dont believe everything everyone tells you and expect the unexpected.
another piece of advice - bring plenty of money with you to get set up once you arrive, and to leave china on short notice in case the job really sucks. i suggest no less than $3000 in the bank or available on credit card.
i've never worked for EF. some are good and other branches not so good. hopefully you'll get into a good one.
good luck. |

The best thing to do in your situation is to ask those awesome interviewers who both gave you a ton of great information for the emails of their foreign teachers. The FTs working at that EF and living in Daqing are the ones who can give you the real scoop, lowdown, or skinny on the situation there. If those extremely helpful people you talked to give you the emails and/or phone numbers of their teachers you should be OK, depending on what they tell you of course. Good luck! |

I actually forgot to mention that in my post - I did ask and they sent me the email address of someone who does the same job they're offering me, so hopefully I'll hear back from them soon! Thanks!

Ooh good idea. I forgot to ask them about how much I should bring over, I'll definitely try to bring around that much but I'll ask and see what they think I'd need. Thanks for the advice! |
