When I come into HCMC on 1/1/10, I'll have some room in my luggage. Documents, stuff from Amazon, stuff from home. Only legal stuff, folks.

Hopefully, I can defray some travel cost and do someone a favor. Price = 30% of DHL: http://www.dhl-usa.com. So, figure out what DHL would charge and I'll do it for 30% of that quote.

1. This is to HCMC only. I'm going to land and be very confused for a couple of weeks. I can't ship anything around Vietnam. I bring it to HCMC and that's it.

2. We'll have to discuss and decide whether it will work: I'm not DHL: I don't know about insuring anything. If, for example, my luggage is lost, we're both out of luck. Also, I may be allowed only certain things in my luggage (e.g. 1 iPod)*. No original packaging, no tags, no owner's manuals, etc.

3. I live in Austin, TX, USA. Plan on shipping to me here.

I know I don't have this all figured out, but all I know is that if I were there I'd interested. Maybe we can start a travel/shipping co-op or something... later. The 30% of DHL stands.

I hope, this is a helpful proposition and I also hope to meet anyone that can help me get situated when I land. Place, job, fun.

*So far, I'm bringing a multitool, minimaglite, 6 books, 3 suits, 2 pr of shoes, an iPod touch, a laptop, a shower filter + cartridges, air mask + cartridges, a motorcycle helmet and jacket (maybe), personal documents, very basic clothing and toiletries. I don't know to what extent I can doubleup on this kind of stuff, but that's about 1 suit case and a carryon. That leaves another suitcase ready for your stuff.

Nice. Seriously, what do we need from here for some burgers? I can probably bring everything but the beef... What's the ketchup, onion, tomato, lettuce, cheddar cheese, bun situation? I can definitely bring ketchup. Fire up the BBQ and chill some beers, folks.

Motorcycle helmets can be had here for about two dollars in the street markets. Motorcycle jacket? It does not get cold here and traffic moves at about 30mph max. Save some space with the above. Bring as much authentic materials as you can, old Scholastic Magazines, advertising brochures, Western style T-Shirts with correct spelling and Levi's if you can find them on sale , etc. Oh yeah, how much to bring my 1976 BMW R-75?

Mmmm... I want to bring a good helmet -- DOT certified. The jacket is probably optional, but I'm thinking a hot-weather mesh with basic armor. I really want to bike, but I want to keep my brain and bones in place Smile

I'm still on the fence with this one but... we'll see.

Good idea with authentic materials. Excellent idea. Hadn't even remotely considered that.

So, is there a market for t-shirts with correct spelling and Levi's? As for Levi's, what is a good generic size to bring, how much do they sell for there, and how would I do so? I can't imagine wearing jeans in a tropical climate, but if people need them...

LOL on the motorcyle -- it's a complex situation. A Vietnamese friend here wanted me to import a harley into Vietnam for him, so I did a little research. It's neither simple nor cheap. Possible, but, man, you'd really have to love that thing and want it there to get it back by your side.
