If you have citizenship in an EU member country, you can work legally in Spain. If you're Australian (Gold Coast) you cannot get a work permit for Spain (or most of western Europe) EXCEPT for perhaps a student visa that will allow you to work part time. |

Then you're ok - or as ok as anyone in the current tight economy.
In that case, you would probably need to come on over with enough money to support yourself for a few months. The major hiring period is September, and most contracts are Sept/Oct thru June. There is often some work around starting in January.
Most newbie teachers have a CELTA or equivalent, so you'll need to think about getting some training. You might consider doing this in Spain - training locally can help you develop useful contacts that can help with the job hunting process. |

I am also an Australian with a British passport and I was teaching in Spain for the first six months of 2009 (but I was already a teacher).
Don't try to contact companies from Australia. They want you in Spain or at least Europe or they won't take you seriously. I got my job from Germany but it was an urgent situation for them.
Save some money, go over there, get some training (good suggestion to do it locally). It's true that employment is Spain is around 20% but I finished up in July and the person who took over in September still has the job with full hours. However, I was in a small and somewhat dreary town so you may not get a job in a sought-after location but anywhere is Spain is good. I agree with you, Spain is loveable. Good luck! |
