Hey everyone,
I have currently come to crossroad, and at this juncture I think it would be best to
look for some advice from all you experienced type.
Currently I am scheduled to take the 140 hr. in class TESOL certificate course in
HCM through ITTT next summer. However, I am begininng to feel some skepticism on the
quality of this course and the certificate I will be recieving. From my
understanding CELTA is a more widely accepted certificate which would give me a far
better probability of landing a job in Vietnam after completion in comparision to
this TESOL certificate i am currently enrolled in.
I am a native english speaking
Canadian and I am about to finish my B.Sc in Geology as of next summer. So like
some, I am looking for a change, I would like to expeience a different culture from
a perspective that is different from a tourist. Therefore I am obviously not
planning to move to Vietnam in hopes of making mad money, but for the experience.
Now I have also heard that the CELTA training is gear more towards teaching adults,
if I am not mistaken. I personally would rather be teaching to teens or maybe young
adults. This is where I would appreciate a little advice. The ITTT course i am
Taking in HCMC promises a 50 hr Teaching Young Learners component, which I would
see as beneficial in my position. However a CELTA would indeed give me a far better
training in grammar and other areas ( And with my understanding
the CELTA Certificate is considered a "better" document to secure employment) .
Now If anyone could give me some insight in my situation I would be very greatful. I
have already foolishly dropped my deposit on the ITTT course. As of next July I will
be taking the course , however I would rather sacrifice the 500$ for a better
piece of mind and advantage in the industry if I should decide to go for the CELTA
program. I hope I included all the necessary info! |
