I'm a newbie and have a few questions, as I have noticed some people take it to heart on here when a new teacher takes a low wage. I want to work in Guangzhou. Can I get some input on what pay I should barter for as a new, inexperienced teacher?
Also, I'll be wanting to begin working on my master degree online while working in China. How many hours a week should I intend on teaching in order to have time for my graduate work?
Finally, I understand that in China I stand a decent chance of getting a university position with a BA. How will I benifit from having a master of English in China if I can get the same positions with my BA?
Your comments are very much appreciated.

Inexperienced? Read here first: http://www.gzpi.gov.cn/gzfeb/English/Certificates/Classification/default.htm
Then here: http://www.gzpi.gov.cn/gzfeb/English/Certificates/Certificates/t20051125_23108.htm

You can work for a uni at 5K RMB/mo with a BA, MA, or bubblegum wrapper.
You can work at a third-tier college and make 8K RMB/mo
Both have c.20 hrs/wk - usually no office hours.

You can work at a mill and make 8K RMB/mo + and enjoy 40+ hrs/wk.

I should add that the salary doesn't matter if you're comfortable with it. Some of us wouldn't touch a job for less than 10K RMB/mo net, so if you take a position for less, you're not hurting anyone.

Do Enjoy!

Of course there's the potential hurt when employers start to think - why are we giving 10K when some of these idiots will accept 5 Idea

Depends on where you're at. A decent wage in Zhengzhou would be laughable in Beijing. Try to get an "opt out" clause in your contract if you find that you can't live on your salary.

Third-tier colleges pay 8,000? Do you mean only in the largest cities, or elsewhere, too?
