Hi. I'm new and seriously considering a cert program to begin Feb. 1 at the Tenn. Foreign Lang. Institute in Nashville. I say that in case anyone out there knows anything about that particular institution. What I'm wondering about is whatever anyone knows out there about job prospects here in the US. I would probably want to go overseas after a bit, but I'd start out here. This is a big deal for me 'cause I'm not so young anymore. I just have a BA and no teaching experience. Thanks.

I think it would depend WHERE you want to teach in the US. Maybe try posting on the NOrth America forum

Yes, it is a big deal. I think you are wise to get the cert, but experience cannot be bought, only earned. Are you making this decision for the money? Or for the travel?

If it's a career move, the US isn't going to pay much if you can even find a job (search GED or adult/continuing ed jobs). Actually there are only a few countries which will allow you to save a substantial amount of money per month (say $1000+) and of course those have the most competition. However, many, if not most, countries will provide a comfortable lifestyle (considering the total number of hours worked in a week) as well as an interesting environment, but comfort and interesting are relative concepts.

If I may ask, how old are you? You will definitely have to pay some dues before you're able to move up past the entry level positions.
