Since accepting a contract with Al Khaleej, I have been lurking these boards to affirm my commitment.
I have yet to discover another forum with as much logged information and current discussion.

Many Thanks to the regulars! ^-^

I was recruited in July by Skyline. I was surprised by the expense of the medical report that doctors in the the US described as odd.
In mid-August, my Visa packet stalled-- as others have described-- due to Holydays and backlog. >_<

I registered with Dave's Cafe to correspond with others in my lot while waiting out these next weeks. @->-->>----

Welcome to the board, and good luck with the Kingdom.

The holiday mess is quite predictable and doesn't indicate much more than run of the mill Saudi incompetence/laziness/disorganization/disinterest.

Well lazycomputerkids lets help you along with those posts so you can get to PMing lol.

Is your application one for an iqama visa? Do you think if it doesn't come through they will just send you on a business visa or wait for it to come through...

Thanks for the help, lizziebennet. Waiting for a work/iqama visa is the current status. My recruiter hasn't suggested a business visa and I take that as a sign of a reputable recruiter. I can imagine circumstances where a business, or more temporary, visa is a legitimate option, but not in my case. As mid-Oct looms, the waiting is worrisome, but after having trusted my passport and diploma and everything else in the packet I wouldn't be eager to hear, "We'll just send you anyway and mail it after you." And it wouldn't make sense. Not until the Embassy accepts the documents could an employer know I'm bonafide.

So are you still waiting for your employer to send you the visa number etc from Saudi Arabia? Or did you send your passport etc to the Saudi embassy in mid August and are still waiting to get it back?

The former situation would seem fairly normal to me, especially given Ramadhan and Eid. However, if you're still waiting to hear from the embassy after a month, you simply have to get on the phone and ask them what the problem is. Saudi embassies operate on a strict 'Call us because we won't call you" basis.

Thank you for asking...

Closer to the latter. My recruiter uses a service to expedite the process. I imagine veteran teachers would have little use for such a service, but as a newbie I frequently realize agents and actions only after moving through a procedure. @_@

That's what I'm reading from several posts...and that bringing over teachers later than sooner maximizes an employer's contract as to holidays.

Good Morning, Lazy

I have also been contacted by Skyline for a job at Al Kaleej. I called all over Houston for a doctor who knew how to do the medical, was promised over the phone that the doctor knew what to do, but when I arrived, she balked at the cholera and malaria tests. Said she did not even know how to ask for a malaria tests and they would be very expensive and my current insurance would not pay for them. I am trying to contact my Visa people today. Did you get the malaria and cholera tests?

I actually skipped the malaria test.
My doctor didn't see the point since malaria isn't a real problem in the US (likewise for cholera; probably more relevant in Africa for example).

I think the medical form is generic and takes into account living conditions in all countries.
In reality, I think the embassy only really cares about the major tests like HIV, Hepatitis, TB, etc. (well, at least in the US; perhaps in other places they focus on other things)
I remember one person posting before that they had their doctor sign off on the "ridiculous" tests (e.g., stool), although I had it done.

Maybe the more seasoned veterans can confirm these notions.

It is costly, about $500.00 for med exams (Not to mention Fedexes etc. etc.)

And some things dont make a lot of sense such as being over the "pregnancy" age limit, yet a pregnancy test required. Smile

I just went ahead and did all tests anyway in order to save time with possibility of application being sent back.

H.
