After being let go from Hess at the end of my probational period, I was desperate. I only had seven days from the Cancel Contract Agreement to find another job, or I'd lose my ARC. I was willing to take the first job that came my way, and I did.

Unfortunately, I took one that both gives me very few hours (only ten this week) and monopolizes my Wednesdays and Fridays, preventing me from being able to work at most other places (which all seem to want teachers to work on Wednesdays and Fridays).

Since almost all the job ads that I see on Kaohsiung Living and Tealit would require me to work Wednesdays and Fridays, they're out.

I have applied for some morning work, but elementary school is out of the question because I don't have a teacher's license, and kindergarten is out because all the kindy jobs around here in Kaohsiung are so hotly competed for. I had a job interview for a kindy today, and they told me that SIX OTHER PEOPLE ARE BEING INTERVIEWED! This doesn't even count the number of people who submitted applications, so we could easily be talking about 10 or 20 people competing for one job.

It's really difficult to live, let alone save, on 20,000 NTD a month post-tax. I've had three different interviews for jobs that DO fit my schedule, and only one of those turned into a real job. Unfortunately, we applied for a work permit and were rejected (it's an international school, and apparently the requirements for those are higher than for buxibans), so that job will end, probably this week, once they find another teacher.

How on earth can I get more hours? I'm so desperate, I'd be content with 15 stable hours at this stage. I just don't want to live from paycheck to paycheck.

why not just leave your current job, and switch to a different school that offers more hours?

If the current situation persists and I simply cannot get more hours anywhere and am stuck at 10 hours a week, I might do that.

However, I'd rather add more hours on if possible than quit. I've already switched jobs once. It's not fun and there's a lot of anxiety. This school is survivable, except for the number of hours. I'd hate to dump this school for another just to find myself in another Hess-like situation...
