except for the Stasi-like colleagues (typically unmarried women) who had nothing better to do in their life than slave away at the font of education. Poor cows!

For their benefit, I always used to leave a jacket on my chair, the computer switched on, and a cup of coffee on my desk - just before I left, of course. This practice was adopted by several of my colleagues, too - in fact, I think they taught me to do it!

It's very possible he/she might just be your common, garden-variety slacker who thinks that people who do their best at their jobs are clueless idiots.
