Has anyone had any dental work in Saigon? I'm looking to get my wisdom teeth pulled and I would like a doc who speaks english and isn't going to pick his nose before he puts his hands in my mouth. Anyone with experience please speak up. I was thinking the FV hospital is the safest bet. Does anyone know of any other places that are good quality?

Thanks

Westcoast is probably the best but by far, not the cheapest. 27 Nguyen Trung Truc, around the Binh Than Market area, D-1. They cater to ex-pats. If you want to save money, get a VN friend and ask him, try D-3 or D-10

West Coast Dental is the best but also the most expensive.
Modern equipment and good English.
I looked at a few places beforehand and I could have saved some some dough going to Minh Khai Dental on Nguyen Thi Minh Khai.
English is not as good but their prices were less by about 1/2 and it still looked faily modern.
To get to this place you have to go to the end of Pham Ngu Lao and turn right until you get to Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, turn left and you'll see the place in the first 30-40 meters. Go in and get a quote.
I had wisdom teeth pulled....expect to take some meds for a few days and to gargle with some salt water.
Both these places should have a web site.

When you guys say "it's the best" you mean it's actually the most effective, or you mean it's the nicest looking with great furniture? This is a common concern in Vietnam. I can't offer much feedback but to say the single time I went to a dentist (in the tourst area, they spoke decent English) the dentist was friendly and knowledgeable but when it came to the cleaning, she cleverly walked out and had some 'assistant' come in who had been writing paperwork beforehand. I didn't care too much for the switcharoo. She did a rather substandard cleaning job, very little scraping other than acting like they did it, a polish that was half-ass and they didn't even get much of the polish paste out. It was a typical rush you through for the money thing.

I've never heard of an actual dentist doing the cleaning itself, that's always left to the hygienist.

I'm guessing you didn't go to West Coast Dental as I know there are a number of other dental offices in the tourist area.
West Coast stated told me they wanted to do a teeth cleaning first and so I did. The dentist did the work in my case and it I noticed quite a difference afterwards.
To anyone thinking of having dental work done they can go to West Coast and have a cleaning and if you need other work they will write up a program and you can decide if you want to finish the work there or take that program somewhere else. Just don't book the 2nd appt until you check a couple of other places first.

Westcoast is okay, but like all medical practioners worldwide....they will try to sell you something more. I don't care about anything other than this: Give me painless dentistry. I just look at the chair and I get the shudders. See Steve Martin do it justice in "Little shop pf horrors"
