|
|
I know the jobs in the Gulf typically require experience. I have none. I have a Bachelor's and am trying to decide where to get my teaching certificate.
Although the Gulf wants/needs experience, if I get my certificate someplace like Dubai or Muscat, could this open doors for me as far as getting a job in the Gulf after completion? In other words, are schools more likely to give preference to someone with no experience who has studied locally than someone with no experience who has studied on another continent?
Thank you for your help. |

I know it's not what you want to hear, but no, it won't. YOu'll need at least a couple years teaching experience, at the higher education level preferred, and an MA would be helpful too. |

Faced with those two choices--someone with no experience + a local cert or someone with no experience + a cert from elsewhere, sure, you'd be a better candidate, but that's not a realistic scenario. Really, neither candidate would have a very good chance. The Gulf isn't very newbie-friendly--not only because of the requirements that they ask, but also because of... how to put this?... well, let's just say that if my first teaching/living abroad experience was in the Gulf, I might never want to set foot in another educational institution again! (I do enjoy it here, but I think that my years of experience coping with different cultural norms REALLY helped me adapt here!)
