My ESL student (here in Ontario) needs to get her transcripts and degree translated from Chinese to English. I was wondering you need to get it done through a notary or how exactly it's done. She lives in Hamilton, Ontario and somewhere in that area would be nice. She can translate it herself but I wasn't sure if it needed to be officially translated or something.

she'll have to ask the place that is accepting the transcripts. Some places want offical translatiosn, others don't.

Thanks. Let's say she needed an official transcript. Where would you go to get one? As far as unofficial, could she just translate herself then?

The embassy might be a good place to start

I work in the admissions department of a large US university. Our website has specific information for international credentials. If she needs the transcript for a university then maybe she could start with them. We only require a translation but some schools may require a translation and evaluation. I do see a lot of translations/evaluations from WES, Josef Silny, etc. It costs money and can take a while so it is best to start ASAP.

Best of luck.
