Hey I've been lurking around the boards for a while waiting for the right time to travel. Does anybody know if Tefl International is still offering their special projects? And do they have a good rep? There are so many companies to choose from and a lot of them seem kind of shady, with any number of people who claim they're great or should be avoided at all costs. Any advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

TEFL International has been well-discussed around here, and if your search feature is working, you'll find a lot on the company.

THeir special projects as such are less discussed, but there should be some info. General consensus seems to be that TEFL International is an extremely successful organisation, but that their standards in terms of programs probably aren't exactly "top-tier."

How far below the top tier they fall is mostly what opinions seem to vary about.

This is pretty much based on my reading online- my summary of what you'll find on this forum. I haven't ever dealt with TI directly, so...take with grain of salt. But do your research. I imagine you'll find, reading around here, that in ANY teacher training program, those who are disgruntled and disappointed are generally also those who DIDN'T do their research.

Best,
Justin

Here's what I did: I taught for 2 years in South Korea (they will take anybody that has a heartbeat AND a four year degree from English speaking country). You will get around 2 grand a month with a rent free apt. The apt will either be very small or very old (maybe both), but hey, pay your dues. Then I went to TEFL International in Thailand (please get one that is on-site and at least has a 100 hour program. I increased my pay by about 25%. And my choices of school (nice ones) by about another 25%. Now I'm in the Middle East making 4,320 dollars a month and "working" 18 hours a week. Oh, please all of the grammar anal focused people out there give me a break MOD EDIT I just want to help. Good luck with your search!

I don't think your pay increase was entirely dependant on TEFL international. It probably had something to two with your two years experience. And do you have an MA?
