So here I am sitting in a cafe in the capital of the (former) West Germnay and this dude from Riyad rings me out of the blue, trying to recruit me. It was kind of freaky to be honest and I didn't know how to react. Has this ever happened to someone here before, out of the blue? Shocked

Well, 11,250 SR a month, while not a great salary, isn't TOO terrible. I wonder if the provided housing is shared. I wonder how many classroom hours you work a week? I wonder how many students in a class.

But especially, I wonder if anyone really believes you can get any sort of even half-way decent apartment in Riyadh for $1,867 a year.

Regards,
John

I simply don't trust anyone who out of desperation calls me out of the blue. Before I make my move I will (after years) talk to my progenitors and see where I am then...and then I will make my move for life, or death.

Dear Deicide,

Ooops my mistake. That was $7000 U.S. dollars a year for an average apartment in Riyadh (26,250 SR), which is much more realistic.

But I think you're right to be VERY cautious.

Regards,
John

It should be at least US 4000 a month, and as stated housing is too low. Will they pay you for Ramadan, Hajj mid-year breaks? Laughing

As others have said, the salary isn't great but tolerable for a new teacher with no MA.

However, you'd need to ask a LOT of questions before deciding on this one. How long will the holidays be? You should not accept any less than 45 days in summer and at least 5 days (preferably 10 days) for each Eid break. Also, the housing - is it shared? If it is, don't accept it. Even if you think you wouldn't mind, the potential for unbearable situations is just too high.
