"The CPI ranks 180 countries according to the perceived levels of corruption among public officials and politicians, as assessed by international experts and institutions. It scores countries on a scale of 0 to 10, where 0 is perceived to be highly corrupt and 10 indicates low levels of corruption. "

Now, let's look how the ME coutries are doing?

QATAR ranked 22 (CPI = 7) (better than Israel ranked 32)
UAE ranked 30 (CPI = 6.5)
Oman ranked 39 (CPI = 5.5)
Bahrain ranked 46 (CPI = 5.1)
The Magic Kingdom (SA) ranked 63 (CPI = 4.3)
Well, I am not surprised for the Magic KIngdom, I think that is its correct position!
Kuwait ranked 66 (CPI = 4.1!).

"Qatar was said to have the lowest perception of corruption in the region and was ranked 22nd in the global list while the UAE, which last year launched a major crackdown on corruption, was ranked 30th, an improvement of five places on the previous year's list."
"Elsewhere in the Gulf, Oman was ranked 39th, Bahrain 46th, Saudi Arabia 63rd - a leap of 17 places on its 2008 ranking - and Kuwait came in at number 66, the only Gulf nation to drop down the rankings this year."

But, I am surprised how Uncle Sam is also not doing well! USA ranked 19 after UK, Singapore, Sweden!!
Well, it seems Uncle Sam did not finish his mission! Laughing
Singapore ranked 3 (congratulation from king Cobra Laughing )

Afghanistan and Iraq are amongst the most corrupted countries in the world!!! Again, Uncle Sam failed in his mission to promote democracy, equality, transparency, etc, in Afghanistan and Iraq!

Corrupted minds cannot produce transparency or democracy! Laughing

Well, I guess we are all guilty of once in a while twisting, massaging and interpreting data so that it comfortably fits in with and confirms absolutely our own self-conceived prejudices. Nothing new about that.

Well, everything is subjective and relative.

BTW, since you are in Libya, have you noticed any transparency or corruption improvement in Libya's Ghadafi?
Libya is ranked 132 (CPI = 2.5). Well, I guess Colonel Ghadafi must be happy, because this reinforces his claim when he said in one of his speech that corruption has become widespread in the government, and accused his governments of failing in every field!
It seems the Colonel is giving the impression that he is innocent from the corruption in his country! Must be one of his theory in his Green Book! Laughing
