Indonesia being a Islamic country and all, what, if any are the problems if you have two wives?
If the question is a little unclear, I donrt mind explaining my sitution if you think it might help in getting more informed replys. |

Apart from two headaches?
Seriously though, I'm not sure if you mean legally, socially or personally.
I believe only one can be legally recognised as a marriage and the other wife would be married by means of Nikka Sirih. Socially, it's reasonably common. Most Indonesians I've asked have said they have at least one person (grandfather, uncle etc.) in their extended family with two or more wives. You would likely get a more negative response from certain western people. But Indonesians would barely bat an eyelid.
Potential personal problems - without more detail, only you could answer that one. |

actually u are still governed by us law which outlaws bigomy.j ust moving to a country that allows its men to have multiple wives doesnt really solve your problem as u could still be charged under us laws.if are u bringing 2 women from the USA? so, u wont be able to get a kitas for one of them as your school would only sponsor 1. if u are hoping to add an indonesian wife to your collection, u must first get a letter from the us embassy stating the u are not currently married before u can get married under indonesian law. in addition, u and your wives would have to be muslim and the first wife would have to sign documents stating that she agrees to u taking on another wife. and bigomy has declined in popularity here in recent years and i dont think people would find it that acceptable for a foreign person to have 2 wives. guess u dont know til u tired, but u might want to talk to your school about it before you sign any contracts. your contract will have a moral clause, and they might view the second marriage as a violation of the clause and can legally cancel your contract based on this. even if they accept your condition, u would probably need to get your own housing rather than the school provided housing that most ef schools offer. usually u have to pay the entire year up front when renting a house or apartment in indonesia. good luck |
