To any British teachers/workers teaching abroad,
I'm having trouble finding an insurance provider that will cover the first few weeks of my working trip over to Saudi.
The problem seems to arise when they hear I'll be working when I'm there. Typically, most backpackers and travel insurance policies do not cover trips if you'll be working there.
Any ideas? |

Most of the backpacker policies cover teaching work as standard, I can't think of one off-hand that doesn't. Anything classed as white collar is usually covered. Columbus Direct and Preferential definitely both do. The usual exclusions are manual work and potentially dangerous work plus personal liability whilst at work, but you would be covered for the usual things like medical and repatriation.
They are travel insurance policies though, so it is based on the assumption that, working or not, this is really just an extended trip. So you will need to take out insurance for the whole trip, (or at least until your first planned trip back to the UK) not just the first few weeks. If you are essentially emigrating with no plan to return, then you will struggle to find any travel insurance policy to cover you. |
