Great resource employing music videos and subtitles, and a dash of literal humour. Good for that anti-hangover vid lesson. Very Happy

I think you need to discover Weird Al Yankovic;

He's been doing these for years. The Jib jab website is a lot of fun too, a lot of political parodies. As to the lyrics, they're not difficult to find (all available using Google, etc.); you can show them side by side if you feel the need depending on student levels.

Your hangover or theirs?

The image I have of Moscow (formed through reading experiences and anecdotes on here) is a place where drunk guys look for guiris to fight and where you must avoid the skinheads if your skin is of any hue darker than white.

By the way the U2 literal version of "Still Haven't Found..." is hilarious.

Good idea this, could get them to make their own one depending on the level.

I tried this today with a group of advanced students. I showed them a literal version song and they were like, "wtf is this shit?"

They then started talking about the idiots who make them having too much time on their hands and how it's just stupid etc etc.

"Who the hell makes these things?"

"You," I said, "I want you guys to work together and make one for another song."

Hahaha I thought it was heading for disastersville with one student saying, "look I'm not in the mood today whilst shaking his head."

Ended up being a more student centred lesson than normal and they seemed to have a great time doing it. One complained of having no ideas for it but once they got started they were all flying and right into it.

That sounds like fun. It's harder than you think Shocked . I sometimes like to do it at karaoke, make up lyrics that are more apporpriate to unrelated videos that the karaoke mangers decided to splice with the song selections.

I think the songs with social commnetary are more interesting, that's why i like some of the weird al songs better for this type of stuff. Talking about malpractice (like a surgeon) and buying junk on ebay (ebay) are great discussion vehicles, and even the lower level students get a kick out of this offbeat videos. You can also show the original videos and talk about how they're different, both song lyrics and the images they use.
