Thanks. |

Legally yes. However there is a way to "bend the rules" depending on how badly the school needs teachers. |

well its enough to get you a KITAS, work permit and NPWP which by my estimation makes you legal.
this is a fact based on people i know, not supposition. |

Eddie's right. It isn't legal, but it can make you legal.
I also know of at least 2 people without a degree or TESOL certificate that have all the legal documents to teach ESL in Indonesia. |

Then someone did a little magic trick..... if you know what I mean! One of the documents your school has to produce for the KITAS application is a copy of 'your' degree.
However, it does work the other way round, you can get a KITAS with a university degree, and the degree can be in any field, not just one related to English and/or teaching. |

It's Indonesia!!! "Magic tricks' are needed to do almost anything there!
So NO, a degree is definitely not needed to get all the paper work to work legally.
[consider yourself illegally working legally] |

I don't have a degree, and as far as I know I'm here perfectly legally. This being Indo though, perhaps I'm wrong. |

The degree is not obligatory. It might be possible that some teachers or teacher / managers could add - or be encouraged to add - spurious claims of tertiary education to their c.v. for marketing purposes. That, however, is an issue of credentialism rather than legality. |
