Has this been 'officially' scrapped? general chat on this board suggests yes, and some visa-service websites likewise...but a friend of mine teaching at language Link Hanoi has, only two days ago, had his 6-month visa extension granted.
I admit there's a tiny chance he could have meant to say (in his email) "3-month", but I doubt it.
Has anyone else had a 6-month extension within the last 30 days or less? If so state how long ago. Its a pipe-dream but maybe there are many others who, like my friend in Hanoi, have finally begun to get some lsense out of the authorities.
(I can supply the email of my friend in a PM if anyone wishes to talk to him)
Here's another poll; this time deiberately more simple than the previous one. I dont expect many responses at all, but if we get any "accepted"s at all its a good thing surely... |

75 views, over 48 hours and just the one response so far; albeit a negative one.
I'm not going to, but if I was to vote on behalf of my friend at Hanoi's Language Link (three days ago had a 6-month extension approved), the score would be 1-1. I'll keep posting in this thread to keep it high up on the forum list; should be intersting as the weeks progress.
If you select "approved", explain when/where/your credentials please if you have time. thanks |

I was told by my main visa agent, and by other when I shopped around, that a 6 month visa is no longer doable.
It's a thing of the past.
You can extend your six-month visa for 3 months, apparently 1 time only.
After that, you leave Vietnam, or you get a Work Permit.
I am now searching for an employer that will "assist" me in getting a work permit.
I have all of the necessary qualifications.
If any has any info, I'd appreciate a PM. I'll contact the school and meet for an interview. |

Are there restrictions about RE-entering after your 6 month (and/or after your 3 month extenstion)?
So, does that mean you can stay for a total of 9 months and then leave, and do it all over again??
Thanks in advance. |

You are saying a total of 9, are you assuming that you can get an original 6, then 3? I was under the impression that the original visa would be 3, maximum, also, right? Or, wrong?
Then, if you do leave for Cambodia (or somewhere), can you endlessly come back and forth getting new visas? Has this been addressed and confirmed one way or another? I was under the impression that we had expats living there in retirement, without attempting to work, as they liked the country and the prices, and were able to stay long term. I know those people are another discussion, but the visa thing relates to them as well as to us, and am wondering how this is being managed for other expats as well. |

| Yea, I'll concur w/ what I know: no more 6-month visas at all, new or renewing. And no more renewals w/out a work permit or an exemption from a WP, period. |

Vietnam is getting to be so complex and frustrating due to the new visa regulations.
I mean the heat and traffic and pollution in HCMC is reason enough to bail out of this place. And now these idiotic new rules and triple the fees for a visa.
The students are wonderful and i will miss them, but i'm going to leave. |

Thanks for the info. I've read enough what part-time teachers CAN'T do, so what CAN they do??
In other words, if you want to stay there and teach part-time, what IS the best option for visas? Do you have to go in and out every 3 months or what?? |

Yes, one of the major benefits before was the ease of the visas in VN. This counter-balanced the pollution and traffic, etc.
But now this has made everything else difficult, because of the uncertainty.

I am very fed up with the visa fees increase. There must be collusion involved. I have to pay $120 usd for an extention. This, is gouging.
I too, am actively contacting schools in 2 nearby countries. |

With what appears to be rare exception now, you can't go in and out every 3 months; you can work with companies/schools that get your WP, be that P/T or F/T. |
