I ask because of the lack of funds and resources for public schools who are starved of qualified teachers, science labs, computers, books, libraries, funding, organization, curriculum, equipment and so on. The enormous amount of money being pumped into the HCT system could be redirected. Put the lecturers into the schools where many of the teachers only teach 14/15 hours per week. Hoping to get a reaction.

Response?

Our response is irrelevant. I suggest that you pass on your ideas to the Ministries related to education.

step a little closer to your computer monitor so that I can slap you, you are having a "Western" moment - logic, efficiency and practicality do not apply here - sizzle, showgirls, and various bait and switch tactics do.

Sorry, but this is the reality here.

In the girls' schools particularly where many are completely Emiratized, the whole school except for music and pe. The boys' schools remain mostly middle-eastern staffed. isolated schools for both genders still have a decent percentage of non-Emirati staff.

That makes sense... the women who want or need to work don't have many other female-only options to get past family strictures... whereas getting men to be interested in education is a very tough sell. Not enough pay nor prestige...

But, I'm curious as to how these female teachers can only be doing 14-15 hours of teaching in primary school. Are the girls only doing half days or are all the classes shared between 2 teachers?

Classes are taught by subjects - science teacher teaches roughly 15 hours of science to one or two classes, english teacher teaches roughly 15 hours of english, math teacher teaches roughly 15 hours of math and so on ... Any Emirati who's asked to teach longer hours makes a fuss and the hours are lowered. Some who still wouldn't work were transferred out of their school into another where they're required to teach all three subjects. Who knows how that's going to pan out? It's a new move with a subtle message for those who've failed to understand that change is here to stay, I think.

Not yet. HCT is doing a decent job helping to train teachers.
Most HCT grads find jobs, a better track record that the university grads.
A lot of them are working in banks and the commercial sector. The problem with HCT is the individual college management. Some collegies are run by bullies and their cohorts; others have civilized people at the top. It's the luck of the draw. Some of these people at the top are nutcases. Howie probably the biggest nutcase of all.

What's good old Howie up to these days? He should be nearing, if not already, 70. He'll be the Mahathir of ME colleges.

He has certainly mellowed out from the old days of annual year-end purges in the 90s. Laughing

NO way! I need my job and so do hundreds of others. There's a recession on. What they do need to do is get rid of some of the pokeweed types in management. Then it would be a much better place to work.
