Hi all! Does anyone have any recent, firsthand experience with an R.P.F expiring while in process? The reason I ask, is my current school has all my paperwork: release letter, old F.E.C, new medical etc. But, because of some details procuring the said items from my previous school will mean my visa will expire, possibly before the new one is completed. My understanding is, if it is 'in process' one can avoid the 500 fee a day for over-staying? They suggested I get a tempory F until everything is sorted out, I said no. It is ilegal to work on an F (business visa) and that any costs incurred by the screw up, would be carried by the school (they have had over a month to do everything) and yes, the school is licensed. What are your thoughts?
Thank you.

In these parts, if you started the process, which is attested by a receipt given in exchange for your passport, you are in the clear. You must have turned in the paperwork for the RP prior to its expiration date.

In some cases, if you have a super good excuse, which basically means your FAO has a classmate or some such relation in the passport office, things may be adjusted. You may have to write a letter of explanation, actually an official document explaining the circumstances.

Remember, if you are worried about what is legal, if you haven't turned in your RP paperwork prior to expiration, you have no right to be in China at all, much less a right to work.

The fine is very real, incidentally.
