Hello everyone:
Has anyone worked with InterLingua in Belgorod? Just got an offer of $500/month ( )with 30hs/week ( ) and $7 for per extra hour.
Has this school got a website?
Any suggestions/advice (esp. warnings) are appreciated. (any renegade teachers from this particular school? ) |

OK I don't actually know where Belgorod is, so this is very IMHO..
2 questions:
Do they provide accomm. free on top of the $500/month or not?
Do they guarantee a minimum number of hours a week?
If the answer to either question is no, it sounds like a bad deal to me - even a very bad one. |

Yes, they do but the catch is they didn't mention who pays for the utilities.
The minimum number of working hours is 30!
No mention of insurance, sick or holiday pays.
It seems they need a teacher urgently, which made me suspect that some bloke probably did a bunk, either out of unsatisfactory working conditions or other unpleasant experiences. |

Yeah it's a bit too many hours isn't it (did you check whether it was *real* hours or some 'academic' type hour?).. I guess you just need to speak to someone who has worked there before or who is working there. Maybe you should ask for a couple of email addresses?
Quick edit: btw, don't worry too much about utilities .. highly unlikely to be an issue in Russia, afaik |

Is there any more up to date information about this school? |

I don't know, $500 seems like a pretty paltry sum anywhere in Russia these days, apartment or no.
Also, I'm not so sure that utilities are "not to be worried about". In fact, I'd make it very clear who pays the utilities! Here in Vladivostok, in winter, heating can be $80/month or more. I know, because I just paid my bill. Add internet, electricity, and water, and you might see a solid 25-30% of your $500 salary gone quick-like.
All-in-all, this sounds like a bunk deal. I wouldn't take a job in Russia for less than $1000/month, no way, no how.
Good luck!
Edit: Oh...snap! I just saw that they want 30 hours/week (academic or real?!) for $500/month?! Are you kidding me: That's, what, 4 bucks and change an hour? Don't do it! |

The last comment is based on a misunderstanding. The earlier entries, relating to $500 etc, are all old. I'm asking for new information from people, not comments on the old entries. |

Well, they are offering 1500 dollars a month plus free accommodation for a three month contract. Having said that, they want to apply for a business visa rather than a working visa, so I've withdrawn as I don't want to jeopardise my status in Russia for their convenience. |

Oh, sorry, man. I didn't even look at the dates of those older posts (although I must say that $500 in 2004 was no great digs, either!).
I definitely wouldn't go for that job if they don't offer a working visa (if you want to stay, of course). |

ALTHOUGH STOP PRESS: I gather that there is new legislation making it difficult for lots of organisations to get the paperwork for working visas, so lots of organisations are having to do this now. Even BKC in Moscow, who I've just spoken to. |
