As we all know that the only legal way to work in KSA is with an Employment Visa. However, with the recent rise in recruiters and demand for EFL teachers there are an increasing number of teachers knowingly and unknowingly working in KSA on Business or Government Visas.

What visa do you have?

If you are on a Business or Government Visa, how are things working out?

ha ha ha dont get me started with the visa situation. there are 100 of us esl teachers working for EDEX on a govt visa. A lot of us didnt know the disadvantages of a govt visa: no checking acct, need a person with an iqama to send money home, cant travel to other countries and come back, no rights whatsoever. And since were here illegally our company is taking their sweet time in paying us since they think we cant take legal action with the ministery of higher education.

There is some serious issues going on with our company EDEX and their incompetence with paying u son time.

Dont come on a govt visa if you want to get paid on time and have legal rights as an expat teacher

You mustn't be a regular on DAve's then. The disadvantages of coming to KSA on anything other than a full employment visa have been pointed out again and again.

Come and work here ONLY on a legitimate visa that allows employment. Anything else is ILLEGAL and will lead to GRIEF and SORROW.

Tacomaboywa,

I just found M Trading advertising on seriousteachers.com, so I asked them if it was M Trading as they did not advertise their name or location. Seriousteachers.com just replied and stated that it was M Trading, so I advised them of what was going on, and to type M Trading on Google and to see the results.

Yeah, there are several ads out there. I saw that one on seriousteachers.com too. They use a green graphic that says, "Saudi Recruiters".

Anyone reading this, just make sure you do some research on any potential employer.

i have an employment visa/iqama and i work for a private school and i still dont get paid on time, payday is a very interpretive 'before the end of the first week of the gregorian calendar" so dont think ur troubles will end with an iqama. however i do enjoy the benefits of a bank account and access to labor courts should i need them

It is still better to come to KSA on an Employment Visa instead of a Government / Business Visit Visa. At least it will be legal and you will have some legal rights. When you're here on one of those visit visas you have very few rights. It is fair to say that your odds are much greater to get into trouble when you come here on a visit visa and try to work.

How many lives has TEFLing destroyed?

Naive recently graduated idealistic/lazy kids setting out to see the world, and their life raft from a life of poverty twenty years later is working in KSA.

It is a pitcher plant - when your in it, it's hard to escape.

It is not as bleak as all that. Certainly better than living on benefit in UK, or eking out an existence there in a low-paid job. Have you seen the earnings of people TEFLing in Britain ?

What about life teaching in a state school in a deprived area in the UK ?

I will take a job TEFLing in Saudi rather than that, provided I have some leeway in choosing my masters.

I recently got fired from EdEx for complaining about that late pay. Another person also got fired But they got all the pay due because they were prepared to stay & force their hand. They even got the contracted 30 days pay due after notice of the position being canceled. That situation is not yet finished playing out.
