I have a phone interview for a school called Christian American School in Guatemala City. Does anyone know anything about the school? How about Guatemala City? Is it a good place for a single woman to live?
Thanks! |

I suggest asking the school for emails of current teachers. |

Greetings,
Depending on your hair and eye colour you may be safer. What I mean is that if you can pass as a Latina then of course you will fit in better. There are, like in most cities everywhere, areas that are more dangerous. Bus drivers have been murdered for cash and gangs are prevalent so one most be cautious but...
There is a woman who is from the USA and lives and works in Guatemala City. She has a blog. I don't have the blog address anymore but a search should bring it up as that is how I found it. She did make a point of stating that she has red hair.
I hope this helps.

For what it's worth, I went there on holidays last year and it was not a safe city but I'm basing that on two nights only. I didn't want to stay longer. I had more problems there than in the rest of the country (I was there 3 months total).
I look obviously foreign and am female, single. I was followed constantly by street kids, vendors and strange guys who wanted money or to offer me various deals. I had a scary encounter with a taxi driver who was not happy with his fare. I also had a bag slash but they didn't get the goods.
Go and check it out before signing any contract that involves a lot of night classes and walking to and fro. I guess it also depends which part of the city you are in.
This is just my opinion however. Maybe after more than two days, you develop strategies to avoid these types of things. If you could find another female teacher in GC, they could obviously give practical advice. Good luck! |

That's a dangerous place to be. Exercise extreme caution, esp. as an obvious female foreigner. |

Spent three months in Guatemala.
Would NOT recommend living in Guate City to a single female. |
