I'm just curious. Are there more males or females teaching EFL in Japan?
If anyone can give me any statistical data, I'd be very appreciative.
Thank you. |

I think this would depend on the scene and follow strongly held sexual stereotypes.
e.g.
kids eikaiwa - mostly women
university - mostly men |

Hey Shmooj did you say mostly women in eikaiwas?
Ahhh, it's going to be great working in Japan, who cares if NOVA has a no socialisation with students rule, staff are not students!
To all those who are thinking of rolling their eyes now, I agree with NOVA's rule, as you shouldn't be dating your students.....you should be dating the staff ! |

1. I saw a statistic somewhere about the ratio of male/female foreign teachers (of all kinds of schools, I think) in Japan. It was about 60/40 or 70/30.
2. Avahanian, are you that hard up for a date in your home country? Look carefully at shmooj's stat. Kid's eikaiwa. Not your regular eikaiwa. |

KarenMarie, I think your main concern about sexual harrassment may be if Avahanian is in the country at the same time as you. Once he is, it could be "anywhere, anytime" |

Hey Glenski,
well, 40 or 30 percent is still better than nothing
and no, i am not hard up for a date, but there's nothing wrong with having fun when in Japan. Nothing wrong with going out with girls, rather than sitting home and watching TV

I think sniffing around work colleagues' desks for dates is a bad way to go. I wouldn't want to sleep with someone, wake up and then work all day with them as well.
I don't sh1t where I eat, to put it crassly. There are other forums than work to utilize to get dates. Work is for work. Play is for play. So sayeth fat_c. |

I believe Interac has employee stats on their website concerning age/gender/experience profiles. Whether that can be seen as a typicla representation of teachers in Japan is an open question. |
