|
|
Im a recently qualified EFL teacher. I just earned my Trinity Cert. TESOL certificate, time to start searching for my first job.
There are many places Im considering, even though its diffiicult... may give Spain a try.
I have some questions about Mexico, Im thinking of going back to teach there. I studied abroad in Cuernavaca and I returned to the US and had a very hard time readjusting... I longed to go back (to Mexico, Cuernavaca is nice but Ive already been there). I found out about Tefl... and thought, this is the answer to my prayers.
I talked to my friend, who is Mexican (he works in HR), and he hinted that it might not be worth it for me to work there because he says that they pay teachers very little down there.
I realize that Im not gonna get a six figure salary as an EFL teacher, but I miss Mexico a lot and am seriously considering going back.
I would like to hear from people who have taught down there or who know about Mexico? Would it be difficult for me to find a job that pays enough to support a teacher? I care more about going back to Mexico than I do making a pile of cash.
Before you freak out... I can tell you that there are some really nice parts of Mexico. On the news, we get a very distorted picture. Theres so much more to the picture than what you see on CNN because they show the very worst. I mean this with all respect and I hope I havent offended anyone. I dont mean to.
What would I have to do to get an EFL job that would pay enough to support me?
I realize that Asia is probably the most lucrative place to teach EFL... and I would like to see Asia, its beautiful and exciting and Id love to go there... but Ive just left half my heart in Mexico. Furthermore, if something bad were to happen at home, in USA, Id only be a three hour flight from my family and I could return easily in case of an emergency. Ive thought about going to Asia for a year, saving some money and then looking for work in Mexico.
Thanks for listening to me, and for not making any mean comments!!
Im a new and inexperienced teacher and my questions may seem naive to the veterans out there... but Im new to Tefl. Thanks for understanding, for listening, and for helping me if you can.
Saludos... |

You didn't say whether you had a university degree, if I'm not mistaken. It may make a difference to the kind of answers people might give to your questions. |
