Can anyone share initiatives, projects, proposal or links that are being implemented in the UAE to promote reading in the UAE. If you are at one of the PPP scholls what is your approach to raising the habit of reading. Are the libraries doing anything? Read that there was a mobile library on the loose - anyone seen it?

I am hoping to start a Reading SIG with Tesol Arabia. In order to do so I need to get at least 40 Tesol Arabia members to endorse the concept. If you would like this SIG to start please pm me with your name, TA number and a simple message like 'Yes to Read SIG' I will then be able to apply to Tesol Arabia and if their executive committee are in a agreement I hope to get it launched by the new year. I can send any details about the aims if asked.

| Thank you to those who have started to support my initiative with TESOL Arabia. Am hoping to start a Reading SIG which will promote a culture of reading and raise awareness of the importance of reading to us all. |

| If you want to support the idea of a READ SIG with TESOL Arabia there are three Chapter meetings on Saturday. One in Sharjah, one in Fujerah and one in Abu Dhabi. Just go along and sign up. |

Does anyone know of any awards around the world or in the Middle East that are given to teachers for doing a good job. Or for Reading Champions - students/K-12. Is there a UAE award for teaching - does anyone know who are the sponsors and what are prizes awarded. Thanks

| The Emirates Foundation are looking for ideas for projects that have to do with reading, learning, libraries etc.. If you put in a proposal and meet all their criteria then your school or institute could get financial support for certain projects. Worth a try. |
