Almost no-one is happy there, few want to remain now, hence the refusal to consider transfers out - it would be a very unedifying spectacle (for the management) of a mass exodus!
The Dean known as 'The Ruler' has been mostly responsible for this state of affairs, and she is despised by virtually all the teaching staff there. She bullies the other managers into submission, and exercises her position of influence with certain Emiratis to consolidate her grip on the college.
It's a brave fool who wants to work there now!
The atmosphere is toxic. This woman has alienated so many people in various departments. She thinks she knows it all, but like all bullies she is a small person who thinks big. She likes to throw around her weight but basically she's very incompetent and disorganized which is why she likes the unilateral approach.
Several of us are resigning. We don't need to put up with this kind of crap from a person who (from various reports) hired a ghostwriter to help her with her thesis. If this rumor is true, it explains a lot. No wonder she doesn't know what she pretends to know. The woman is vile. This place was run very professionally for many years by very competent people, it was at one point in time, considered a flagship college to work in. Not any more.
She has poisoned it and poisoned people with her venom. |

Not so much 'murky waters', more like 'Bloody Waters' I would say! I append the message below, which was until recently available on a certain blog...
The Dean of Professional Studies (an extremely ironic title, given her behaviour) has been revealed as the driving force behind the recent summary dismissals (i.e., sackings) of several ADWC teachers, in which valuable staff members who had been working for many years at the college were humiliatingly escorted off the premises. In fact, no less than SIX ADWC teachers have been fired over the past year, and all for 'misdemeanours' that warranted no more than a formal written warning in every case.
The fact has now emerged that the above Dean (R al-K) was clearly behind the sackings - which is no surprise at all. She was moved away from her previous HCT post because of her inability to work with her colleagues and her failure to perform at a suitably professional level. Now it seems that she is once again revealing her true vindictive and spiteful nature, this time at ADWC, by choosing to end the careers of well-respected and talented teachers.
The pattern seems to be clear here - that clearly incompetent and unprofessional HCT senior managers are very keen to get rid of those staff who (a) they perceive as more popular than them, and (b) make a single step out of line. The fact that the supervisors of those teachers who were sacked did nothing to protect them also points out the well-known fact that, at HCT, the supine approach to management is the one that works best! |

ouch. Sounds positively vicious. I"m not surprised. The person in question sounds even more deluded about her intellectual capabilities than was the bone-head dean at the campus where I worked. It certainly came as a relief once I got out. It was a good run, but enough was enough. |

It sounds as though the waters of ADWC are as sewage ridden as those off the beaches of Dubai. |

The dire situation at ADWC is not new. Several years ago a colleague of mine there was falsely accused of a severe 'misdemeanor' by a student. Of course, it was obvious to everybody that the accusation was nonsense, a complete fabrication, and the whole faculty believed in my friend and gave their support.
However, the senior management of the time had other ideas - they refused to bother to discover the truth, and they immediately crucified and humiliated the poor teacher.
Why? Well, quite simply, there was nothing to gain by supporting the teacher, so they didn't. It was more expedient to destroy my colleague and tell the vice chancellor that the matter had been taken care of.
To say it was a nightmare is a gross understatement. It left my friend and the family totally devastated .
This scenario is probably repeated at HCT colleges across the Emirates every year. So beware of the cynical and supine management, especially under-qualified Senior management 'vultures' such as 'The Ruler'.
Given the management's obvious contempt for the teachers that work under their 'supervision' (ha!), it's no surprise that many teachers are deciding to leave ADWC and seek a more enlightened environment. |

Well... I do know of someone who just survived a very similar situation there, so is it all pretty unpredictable when something like this happens.
That said, I am in complete agreement as to the dire situation there at the moment. So... did I understand correctly from Mr Bentley that the woman causing most of the problems was transferred from RAK? There were rumbles and rumors of problems there a couple years ago... so I guess they just passed the problem to ADW. What nationality is this woman anyway? How is it that she has the wasta to stay?

Don't tell me that the Ruler is none other than the "Claw", who, rumor had it, was enlisted a few years back to do the hatchet job at the behest of the now defunct director of the Ras al Khaimah colleges? Bad news. Really bad news. A real creature of the system. Do I detect some nebulous, acrid smell? Malodorous. Oh....hold your nose. |

Umm no it is not the Claw.
She is still in RAK. Though according to my sources in RAK she has become redundant and will be gone from RKW at the end of the academic year. My sources say there is rampant paranoia in RAK due to the new director. But I do not have enough information to say more.
No the problem in ADW is not the Claw. The problem is WORSE according to friends in ADW. |

I received a PM that some are of the impression that she came from ADMC and that she is likely Emirati based on her name. That isn't good news as it is nearly impossible to get rid of a national. They can only be promoted...
Someone please correct me this if it is wrong.

Wouldn't it be fun to get hired by HCT and sent to ADWC when you're close to retirement (or just have lots of money) ...just to tell her to go **** herself in front of everybody when the moment's just right. |

I worked at ADWC as an adjunct some time ago, and I must say I did find the place lacking in cheer and morale. That's why I turned down the offer of a full-time position, and I had received a better offer anway.
My spell there was before the arrival of the dreaded animal known as 'the Ruler', but I did witness and experience shoddy and unlikeable treatment from the two main supervisors of English, DP (aka 'Dimbo') and JD ('Miss Piggy'). For the benefit of any teachers who might be considering joining the college, the following serves as a warning.
(MOD edit)
All in all, between the two of them they managed to cultivate a very unpleasant atmosphere. The addition of 'the ruler' has probably acdded to the acrimony, and I can appreciate that almost nobody, except the typical brown-nosers (we all knew who THEY were!), would wish to remain there much longer. |

Just reading this gave me flashbacks of the despicable treatment I received at the hands of the aforementioned Sesame Street character. She is the very definition of two-faced. She'll smile to your face and stab you in the back as soon as you turn around. I know. The scar in my back aches as I write this. Working for her was one of the worst experiences of my career. I pity those who are there now, especially males and especially Americans--she hates both and plays favorites. |
