"My Kingdom will survive only insofar as it remains a country difficult to access, where the foreigner will have no other aim, with his task fullfilled, but to get out." -- King Abdul Aziz bin Saud, c. 1930
What say all ye who slave in the Magic Kingdom now? |

A little matter of court etiquette, m'dear. A king or queen is given the honorific "His Majesty".
"His Highness" is for lesser mortals. |

Somehow I don't think Ibn Saud was thinking of ESL teachers when he made this statement... |

It is probably from Philby - who made up most of his stories about life in Riyadh. If not from him then from the Viennese convert to Islam whose original name was Weiss but who adopted the name Mohammed Asad when he converted from Judaism. |

Well, the option to be there or not (and to slave) is before us. And I know many people dying to get there. |

Thanks so much for the lesson in etiquette, scot47. We 'Murricans don't know much about these things. |

Well, not really as there are well over 5.5 million non-nationals living in the kingdom. I'm sure that figure doesn't even include all the left over slaves (after the 1960 ban), stateless and others who are there illegally (by or against their own will).

Well,Uncle Scott, I think Teta Mia does not know the penalty of Lse majest in the Magic Kingdom!
The minimum sentence for lse majest in the Magic Kingdom is 70 lashes if made in private, and 170 lashes plus 6 months imprisonment if made in public! The maximum sentence is 7 years! |

Hey, I was at least trying to be respectful! It was Sheikh N Bake who committed lese majeste. (Don't arrest me for leaving out the accents, 007). |

Trapezius should have learned that "Some are more equal than others". Maybe George Orwell was not included in the literary canon when he went to school ? |
