"The court insisted that the magician deserved death in order to make him an example and deterrent for others, especially for foreigners who come to the Kingdom to practice sorcery."
Better leave the broomstick and black cat at home. Gives a new meaning to the phrase "a spell in the Middle East". |

When I lived in Java at the back end of the 90s many village headmen and hukums(medicine men) were found dead (killed/murdered)in the eastern provinces because of allegations of black magic, some of the reasons were political but many were not. Go back 3-400 years to Europe and see how the middle ages overlapped the Enlightenment, and you will find similar cases. A chap named SCOT made the first attempt at arguing that witchcraft was irrational........I wonder if by any chance you are............................?

If you look at the history books just about nothing happened anywhere in 1431 and that has GOT to be a good year!!!!!!!!!!!

Hm, I remember the husband of one of my colleagues in Riyadh getting into hot soup about some books or ouija board or somesuch that the Customs intercepted. They were both going to be deported but then the matter died down (or I left in the meantime; can't remember anymore). The woman was quite fond of cats, too, though I cannot vouch for their color.
That aside, murdering somebody because they dabble in some hokery-pokery without harming anyone except other douches who believe it has an effect on anything shows that in many ways Saudi really is in 1431 (1431 C.E. not A.H.). |

If you kill someone it is murder. When the state does it, that is execution.
Personally I cannot say that I would waste much sympathy on the guy. Sympathy fatigue has got me. |
