Be careful with this one. It is a recruiter in disguise and a recruiter with a bad name at that. This mob seems to be run by the infamous Jenny Wu. Just do a search for her name on ANY Taiwan teaching site and you will see what I mean.

The first thing that I notice about the offer is that it suggests that a degree is not compulsory. To the best of my knowledge there is no way to secure legal employment as an English teacher here in Taiwan unless you have at least a four year degree. This would seem to suggest that the work on offer is not within legal institutions.

Although the tone of the ad leans strongly towards universities, I notice that this ad and others that they post online, refer to 'Young Learners'.This surely doesn't refer to university students, and more than likely refers to kindergarten kids. Considering the current status of foreigners working in kindergartens, you would be well advised to avoid this type of work. I suspect that the ad is written to mislead and I don't see that it is actually a university teaching position.

They do seem to seperate the Chinese language learning component of the offer from the actual teaching component. They mention that you would be working at a school within the area of the 'university' and you can be pretty sure that this would be either work in kindergartens, elementary or high schools - all of which are illegal positions. Hence the fact that you don't need a degree. About the only work that is legal at this stage is work within buxibans with older kids and adults. Why don't you check it out and ask them directly.

Providence University appears to be a Catholic institution. They have a website here:

http://www.pu.edu.tw/

I can't see anything wrong with the Chinese studies part of the offer, but I would steer clear of the English teaching work.

You are right in your original assumption about universities requiring at least a minimum of a Ph.D. Other positions offered by providence University do state this minimum requirement. The position that you have referred to is NOT within the university.
