Lizen Junior High School Dali Taichung
When applying for a teaching position there, I was told that I did not have to be a certified teacher, and that the work permit I would get would be in the name of a Buxiban( Cram school)
Is this legal ?
What would happen if the Police did a raid there?

I've seen this situation before and you need to be very careful.

What happens is the public school (if that is was Lizen Junior High School is) pays a local buxiban school to provide a teacher for them. It saves the public school time and trouble in hiring a teacher legally. The buxiban school makes a profit out of the agreement and takes the risk (as does the unknowing teacher)

It's easy to check out though. You see, to be legal your work permit MUST have the actual/exact address of where you will be working (and NOT the address of a buxiban school elsewhere).

The way to check this is to ask the person that is giving you the job to confirm:

A) The exact address of your work permit.
B) The exact address of where you will be working.

GET THIS IN WRITING.

If they match you will be fine and my concerns will be aleviated. If they are different (for example your work permit says you are working at the buxiban school but in fact you are working at the public school) you will be working illegally and subject to deportation, if caught.

Out of interest (and because your sitution sounds fishy) what buxiban or person is telling you everything is legitimate?

I hope this helps,
LKJ

Thanks for the info.
I have since found out that it is a common practice to get a work permit through an associated Bushiban as certified teachers are hard to find here.
I also heard a school in Keelung was caught and teachers were deported.- I presume the school was fined.
