Does anyone know what kind of medical exams are needed now to get a work visa in Japan? Do you have the medicals here or there or both? What do they check for?
Thanks for your help. |

Never got one for Humanities visa. Instructor visa didn't require one, but my company said that I needed one to be allowed to teach in public school. It was a regular checkup: weight, height, pee in a cup (he dipped a little strip in it, said it was checking for proteins or sugars or something - I don't think it was a drug test), chest x-ray, doctor consultation. I don't think they drew any blood. It was definitely less invasive than the Korean check. |

Medical exams are not a requirement for any visa in Japan that I know of. Individual companies may require health checks, but Japan Immigration does not. |

The main thing that employers/schools seem concerned about is TB, hence the occassional need to get a chest x-ray (but only once in Japan - no checks are necessary for visa purposes/entry to the country). About the only situation where one's health is at all vetted is in the JET programme application, but even that IIRC was pretty much self-disclosure forms without any real need to see one's doctor (unless one had disclosed something at all serious which might prevent successful participation in the programme). |
