Anyone heard of the schools Selta or DD Dragon schools.. I really fancy teaching in Shanghai .. after having a bad 7 months in Korea, i really want to get my next move right, otherwise I will most probably be pi**ed off if China goes wrong too.
Much appreciate any advice really, or any openings with good schools, would greatly be appreciated.. thank you. |

7 months in Korea? Was that from a six-month contract, or a one-year contract?
What went wrong in Korea? What are your expectations regarding China? What would you consider a "good" school?
I need more information before I can offer advice. |

It seems that any advice offered (as in personal opinions) , either tailored or not, would be appreciated. |

DD Dragon is reputable and pays well. I have never heard of Selta.
I found teaching in China far more enjoyable than teaching in Korea.
If you are happy teaching kids, go for it! If you would prefer to teach adults, there are plenty of good schools in Shanghai. |

Sorry if I wasn't specific enough, suppose it was a bit vague.
I was on a year contract in Korea, but soon as i arrived it went *beep* up, worked 1st day there without them telling us, we slept in the dorms the 1st night, they had no apartment for me..... the relationsip sort of gradually broke down....... They were very imcompetant, unprofessional, and never had worked in education, like me, so it was the blind leading the blind.
What I consider a good school is, a structured, professional, know what they are doing type of school. I really don't ask for much.... I had a bad experience in Korea, which through no fault of my own, as I later found the ownership changed before I got there, so from what I was promised and expected, never materialised.. as the new pople in charge, had other idea's but failed to inform of this change in contract... it got messy.
Anyways fresh start, and I really do fancy China.. So Any advice reagrding China would be brilliant.. i.e. people attitudes, the friendliness, how professional have the Chinese been in your experiences? etc etc ..
Thank you |

it'll be a fresh start for you but many of the same drawbacks as korea i'm afraid. it often takes some time to nail down a decent job here. i like the one i've had for the past four years but i had to go through a couple of not so good ones to get to this one.
just come here expecting the unexpected, and don't set your expectations too high too soon. |

i cant really say. i've had four jobs in china and after each of the first three i took a break from china for a spell, and then came back on fresh Z visas. the current job i've just had to renew my residence permit each summer.
there's plenty of good jobs here, just take your time in trying to find one of them. do a bit of homework, read thru the archives on this forum for starters, and things should hopefully work out ok. once you finally start a job, if things go a bit sour then just try stick it out till the contracts over and look for another one. |

Yeah, this is my homework too, just trying to judge what it is like, definitly more clued up after the Korean experience. May I ask where you are? I myself fancy Shanghai, or even Beijing .. what do you think is best?
In Korea, I was in a lesserknown place, so not being in a major doesn't bother me as such. |

Yes, much easier. From what i've gathered, you're pretty much owned by your employer due to Korean visa regulations. |
