Does anyone have any experience with this company? They are hiring through gaijin pot right now. Can anyone share anything?

Sorry for bumping this, but I, too, was curious about this. I have an interview with Global Connect Associates coming up and wanted to know if anyone here worked through them.

they've e-mailed me back, and I'd also like to know what they're all about.

i never heard back from them. basically, the guy was hocking his website. he wanted me to create an account there and log in and connect with other teachers. i felt like telling him "why don't you just call me or email me when you have a position?" The interview was a waste of time.

So you managed to not get anything through them? That sucks.

I'm still going to go through with the interview, just to see what he says. The position I applied for wasn't from gaijinpot, so maybe this is a bit different.

I got something through them, but I turned it down for another one. Basically an offer was posted on his site, I inquired about it and he set me up with an interview directly with the school as opposed to going through some other agency. That was nice.

They really want you to have a LinkedIn account as if it'll make the difference between having a job in Japan or not. I'm not sure how much Japanese recruiters use LinkedIn but the site is huge in the West so you might want to make an account through there and do what GCAJapan wants you to do. It might not land you a job but it couldn't hurt in the long run.

Also, if any prospective employers google your name, LinkedIn comes up first which can be quite helpful.

All in all, I'd say do the interview with GCA and do what they want you to do. I didn't get a job through them but I feel I have some backing now for the future.

Imseriouslylost: That's good to know.

Anyway, I had my interview with GCA last Thursday. Seemed to go well enough. It's just like working with a temp agency, which I, unfortunately, have lots of experience with. Either way, I just hope that I manage to land the ALT job I was applying for in Sapporo.

As for the Linkedin thing, I already had one, but I haven't bothered with it since about spring of last year. Kind of hard to do the networking thing when I don't know anyone who actually uses it...'cept for like one person and that was from someone here on this board.

Does anyone here actually have a LinkedIn account?
