Sounds good, but I find that a lot of my students usually continue through the summer. Except for this year. Maybe it's the crisis that seems to starting here?

But working six hours a day, Mon thru Sat doesn't appeal to me so much. Wouldn't really give me much time to explore.

Does anyone know of good summer language camps in Poland?

Bell usually runs two two week summer camps in July on Sobieszewo Island just 12 km from Gdansk. Vlad and I did one two week campl last year. It was an interesting experience. The pay's not huge, but accomodations and meals are provided in a conference hotel situated in the forest not far from the beach. If you want more details pm or preferrably email me.

Poland is a miserable depressing hole all winter long, an unbearable four months of arctic blackness no human should be forced to endure. But late spring and summer are fantastic. Why then do all teachers clear off during this time? Not being flippant here, I�m curious to know why Poland-based teachers couldn�t cut back just that little bit financially so as to afford summer there.

Hod, I have to disagree with your assessment of Polish winters. I like them, especially this year, and I'm from San Diego!

I stay here during the summer. My income hasn't dropped, and last summer I made more in the summer than I did for the same amount of time during the regular school year.

Coming from southern California, the northern European winters still hold a certain novelty value. But they�ve sucked for me since the age of ten, so let�s see how your enthusiasm holds up after twenty or so winters with less than six hours a day of daylight.

Fair play if you can afford to stay in Poland during summer. Why do all the other teachers evacuate?

I'm from Northern California, and these winters are horrible! When is spring going to come? All of my friends back home have changing their winter clothing (jeans, t-shirt and shoes) for their spring/summer clothing (shorts, t-shirt and flip-flops)? I think the reason why teachers leave right after the school year is because the hottest temperature it gets here is about 30*c. Plus, add rain and cloudy days, and you get a warm winter!
If I had a choice, I would move to someplace warmer with mild winters and super hot summers!

the crap winters here are possible my biggest complaint about living in Poland in general. it truly is depressing.

7 months of shite weather, every year, simply isn't a way to live.

Both. My private lessons continue during the summer. My school offers intensive courses during the summer, and last year had a big EU contract, but both are always last minute things. I may do a summer camp for my school for two weeks in July. I'll have to decide about that by the end of April. But there's always work in summer if you need/want it, at least in my area. I taught two groups of upper-intermediate students. Each met twice a week for six hours. They got 100 hours of English, 100 hours of Business English, and 100 hours of German. There were other groups of different levels.

It was a great contract and kept a lot of teachers in full time work. The only downside is the EU is slow in releasing funds and I'm still waiting for payment for August, September, and a week in October. That's not unique to language schools. I know businesses that have waited for more than two years for their EU funding. Strange, but true.

Hod, for 19 of my 62 years I lived in places that had real winters. I think weather is a state of mind. I intend to stay in Poland until I croak, regardless of the weather.
