When I checked the Chinese Embassy website I get this message:
NOTICE
(2008/04/13)
Visa applicants are increasing in a large number and need longer waiting
time in the visa office recently. If you don't reside or work in Hong Kong
permanently, you are required to apply Chinese visafrom the Embassy
or Consulate-General of Peoples' Republic of China in yourresident
country. You are welcome to China for tourism, business and visit .
Can anyone give me a recent confirmation that going to Hong Kong to get an L visa switched to a Z is still possible? This message is from prior to the Olympics. So if you have been there recently, give me the 411.
What is the checklist of documents:
Letter of Invitation?
Contract?
Health Certificate?
Passport...duh?
Thanks! |

Do your invitations say clearly HONG KONG as the place where you should apply? If it doesn't, you better start looking for a visa agent in your home country to process this for you.
Unless it specifically says, HONG KONG you will not be able to obtain your visa there. (I learned this the hard way)
I'm from the USA and had www.pandavisa.com do it for me. It took about seven days to get everything back from them and my school was able to process the residence permit without me leaving the country.
PS> You can look into a Chinese visa agent to do this for you, but at the time I did this, many of them were dodgy and were charging 4000 - 6000 for this service. F That! |

I am in China now. I had been working at a school and let my visa lapse and ended up getting a 30 day L visa.
I now have a new job and need to get my L visa switched to a Z visa and then come back to the school for the FEC and RP.
I will get a letter of invitation from the school soon. Is there something special I need to have them write in the letter that makes it valid in Hong Kong. It would save me alot of money not having to go back to my home country, but I don't want to waste a trip to Hong Kong to here them say "No".
