hey,
Does anyone know of any places that actually play hip hop instead of just house in Jakarta? I only know of Imperium and I'm trying to branch out a bit. Any info would be appreciated. Specifically as regards this saturday night ( oct. 18 ) or just saturday nights in general.
thanks,
Adam |

have you tried Centro in Kemang? or 2nd Floor? Both were playing Hip Hop when I was there last.
Sadly RnB or trance electric Garage reigns supreme. I am still looking for a good 80's!!! disco. |

Centro's actually in Dharmawangsa (Dharmawangasa Square), not Kemang.
X2 at Plaza Senayan has a room with HipHop. Also Blowfish some Friday nights and Bliss - both on Gatot Subroto. Embassy in Senayan (Taman Ria) on certain nights as well. |

I think I saw Fat Joe and ODB (before he died) in the Tj. Priok Area and
JayZ was spendin' cheese in Blok M last Thursday. |

Gotta say - I'm impressed with Darey's ranking as the 59th best DJ in the world. According to FIFA's latest rankings, that'd make him the DJ equivalent of Belarus! Perhaps we should leave the red carpet rolled out at Soekarno-Hatta after Prince Charles' departure. |

Haha
Some further 59s
If he were:
a country (Area)......Japan
a US film (by box office receipts)...... Cast Away
on the corruption index..... Bangladesh
a city (by pop).......Madrid
a language (by native speakers).......Nepali
a word in English (by usage).........many
a country in the 2008 olympics (medal count).......Malaysia (1 Silver)
Quiz time.............
1. _________ is to Hip Hop as Nepali is to global languages.
Strangely enough, I have about as much chance of learning Nepali as i do going to his show. |

So this is a little late, but we DID actually manage to find some good hip hop in Jakarta. It's at Aphrodite, which even features a ladies night on Thursday (and saturday, I think)...plus there's NO COVER. Not any really good dance floor per se...but the area over by the pool tables was plenty last time we were there shakin the groove things.
Anyway, really liked the music and the cheapness. Enjoy at your leisure. |

While we're at it, any suggestions of clubs playing alternative music would be handy, too. If I never have to listen to a covers band again it'll be far too effing soon. |
