Is your school paying you for the first week of work in Feb. before or after the holiday? Normally payment would be received on the 15th of the month, but this year most schools will be closed at that time. |

The holiday is approaching. What are your plans for the holiday?
Traveling Vietnam? Staying put? Going home? Traveling Asia? Drinking beer on Pham? Heading to the beach?
Post it here.
Is Mui Ne a popular destination for expats during the tet holiday? |

I'm thinking of taking the motorbike on a road trip. Don't know where yet. I'll post back when I know.
Does anyone know if you can enter Cambodia with a motorbike? I've heard it's possible and easy. |

^stayed at the Nhat Linh Hotel at 337 Le Loi St, Phan -Thiet. Great room and staff about 120,000 -150,000 I can't remember, but don't show dollars and negoiate. Across the street is another place about the same price. PT doesn't really have a nice beach, but ur a one minute walk from there as well a five walk to the river/ downtown. The other way (look at a map) you'll find the supermarket. Which was kind of a big deal in my case because you'll no food, at least when I was there a 1 1/2 ago, so you should make sure to put something in the fridge because the town gets very quiet early. From there you can easily get to Muine and then push up to Nha Trang on a sleeper bus if you feel like it.
Phan Thiet's nice for those who want to get-away from it all. |

I'm definitely getting out of the country:
flying into Bangkok, then probably heading to Hua Hin. |

Very well said. I spent my first holiday (also a Tet) staying in Vietnam and forever after that realized it was a mistake. Vietnam is a place you want to get out of with any time off. With budget airlines operating to BKK, there's no question about it. |

Not me, I love it here, and I especially enjoy the countryside, the northern mountains, central coast, Mekong Delta... never enough time to explore and experience these lovely places with their kind and friendly people. Bangkok is the last place I'd think of visiting with all of Vietnam available. |

Definitely, but a little spread out for a person on foot. If you take the train, you can ship your MB but you can rent one there also - the price tag is a little exorbitant but worth it. Beautiful beaches, great food, and lots of other things to do. A bit quiet at night but a great change from the hustle and bustle of HCMC.
Going to Da Nang myself. It's like a miniature Saigon but a lot more conservative. Great beaches, fantastic food, and so many other things/places to do and see that 2 weeks just isn't enough. Make a point to see Ba Na if you ever get up that way.
This'll be my fifth Tet and I've never left VN yet. |

Well, I've got a temporary plan.
My friend and I are planning a road trip into the central highlands of Vietnam. Neither of us have been there before. We both live here and own motorbikes, so that's our method of transport. We don't really have an itinerary, but the route would take us from HCMC to Buon Ma Thuot and back down the coast. We're mostly interested in driving on roads that aren't too busy and checking out the great scenery that apparently exists on the roads between DaLat and Buon Ma Thuot. From the information I can find on the internet and from what I've been told, the places of interest are:
cat tien park
lak lake
da lat city
yok don park and sights surrounding buon ma thuot city
If you have been to any of these places, please let me know what your thoughts were after visiting the place. Is it worth it? What can you do there? Would you do it again? Were there any problems? Is there anything worthwhile you experienced in the central highlands that I failed to mention? Please let me know.
Any advice or comments would be appreciated, thanks! |
