I can't comment on the legal benefits of having a CELTA, or whether it makes financial sense for you. But for me, I found the CELTA to be a very worthwhile experience. Is it the same as going to school for 4 years to be a teacher, or having 10 years teaching experience? Of course not. But for a month-long crash course in teaching, you learn a hell of a lot. Perhaps the most useful thing you learn is the ability to self-evaluate yourself. You won't be able to teach perfectly (who can?), but you'll be much better at critiquing yourself and weighing the strengths and weaknesses of a lesson.
