I have been in contact with a school here in Colorado which is part of the Confucius Institute. They have a sister school at the Chongqing Three Gorges University. Has anyone heard of this school or institute? I'm looking to contact someone who really knows the place and the school. I've been doing some reading, and have heard that the weather in Chongqing is pretty awful, hot and humid in the summer, and cold and damp in the winter.
Is the school reliable? Reputable? Does it treat its teachers well?

Regarding Confucius Institute, my alma mater, University of Alaska Anchorage, recently set up a partnership agreement with them. UAA is VERY careful whom they do business with, so that should tell you something. |

confucius institute...google them. they are a propaganda part of the chinese gov't charged with spreading chinese language around the world.
that is all well and fine...but state sponsored science/research is no science/research at all.
getting linked to CI is no indicator of excellence. dig further. |

Chongqing Three Gorges University is crap. If you are looking for academic fulfillment, then look away!
It is situated in a city called Wanzhou, which is a fun little incubator if you want a real China experience, and is in a nice area. However, there are few western services, apartments are ropey, there are VERY few foreigners, Chongqing proper is 3 1/2 hours away, and transport connections are still fairly dismal.
On the plus side, despite the relative lack of standard putonghua around, it could be a place to study Chinese without interruptions, and to make lots of Chinese friends.
Friends of mine from bigger cities were SCARED when visiting there, due to the masses of people crammed in and the decaying look of the city.
Bear this in mind when you are evaluating what you want. |
