Sadly, quite a few of these ESL schools are run and managed by stingy foreigners with trumped up dubious EFL qualifications.

In some cases they take advantage of recruiting other foreigners to teach for their school thereby keeping the hourly rate down to as little as possible.
This affects all UK ESL teachers who would normally be willing to work for a normal wage and a fair hourly rate.

I might add there is nothing wrong with a foreigner from the EU or anywhere else working in The UK as long as they are not keeping the wages down for the native citizens. This seems be a growing trend.

These lousy schools have popped up like mushrooms.

This hourly rate seems good if you come from a much poorer EU country like Romania or Lithuania etc but it seems insulting for locals.

I'm not sure the dire pay of UK EFL can be blamed on immigration. For some years UK schools have depended on kids living with their parents/ retirees/ English people willing to live in a tiny dirty bedroom in a dodgy part of town etc. to make up the teaching staff with its consequent high turnover.

Ah, so perhaps you are also an ex disgruntled 'DOS' who is ruffled by the reality of what I said.

Problem is that most EFL teachers are actually working for monkeys. :lol
