Dear freesoul,
"We still can't believe this happened. May God give King Abdullah a long life since it was he who set up this court."
Yet further proof that, as another poster wrote before, KING ABDULLAH ROCKS!
Of course, this was the situation in the USA not so very long ago:

Would you marry outside of your race?
Today that question may not be such a big deal. But there was a time in this country when marriage wasnt an option for some mixed-race couples, depending on where they lived.
On this day 41 years ago the U.S. Supreme Court struck down miscegenation laws in several states, legalizing interracial marriage.
Regards,
John |

Did you notice the tribal name of the couple's lawyer? ...speaking of tribal connections...

May the king continue to rock and seldom roll...
It surprised a generation younger than myself that homosexual civil unions were not viewed by minority voters in California as co-equal to inter-racial* marriage-- as a civil rights issue.

That just shows that everyone, regardless of race, is capable of hate of the 'other' ... and not realize that it is the same prejudice in both cases.

Of course they were not compatible because they came from different economic/social/tribal backgrounds... but an 80 year old and a 12 year old are completely compatible!

John, that's very different from this Saudi case. There was a law banning interracial marriages in the US. Yes, it was an unjust law, but it was a law. Once it was repealed, then that was the end of it.
But in Saudi, there IS NO law banning interracial/inter-tribal marriages between Saudis, yet, the couple was forcefully divorced by an educated official judge. And it has happened one other time as well. God will take these judges (and the evil relatives) to task one day.
There is no comparison at all between the two scenarios.
I have been following this case since the beginning, and it is very painful. The girl's father agreed to the marriage basically on his death bed. Once he died, the evil greedy half-brothers (who weren't OK with the marriage in the first place) filed the case with some ulterior motives I can't remember (she was bringing in a salary?). Once they were forcefully divorced, she refused to go live with her half-brothers, so she was taken to a jail/shelter where she spent a long time, WITH HER BABY. It is just very sad. Her husband got default custody of their other child, a little girl, who didn't/couldn't see her mother for a couple of years. He couldn't even see or approach his [ex-]wife (since they were divorced, they were legally strangers) as he would be arrested. That's if he could somehow infiltrate the jail/shelter where she was put up.
I can't understand how people can be so cruel. |

Dear trap,
"John, that's very different from this Saudi case. There was a law banning interracial marriages in the US. Yes, it was an unjust law, but it was a law. Once it was repealed, then that was the end of it. "
Ah, would that a repealed law could also repeal deep-seated prejudice:
"updated 2:41 p.m. MT, Thurs., Oct . 15, 2009
HAMMOND, La. - A Louisiana justice of the peace said he refused to issue a marriage license to an interracial couple out of concern for any children the couple might have.
Keith Bardwell, justice of the peace in Tangipahoa Parish, says it is his experience that most interracial marriages do not last long.
Neither Bardwell nor the couple immediately returned phone calls from The Associated Press. But Bardwell told the Daily Star of Hammond that he was not a racist."
Of course, he isn't.
Regards,
John |

I am reminded of a line or two in scripture about overlooking the beam in our own eye when seeing the speck of dust in our neighbour's. |
