Hi all!

I need your help. I sent my resume to a language institute in El Salvador and the lady wants to know my availability for an interview and when I can give a model class presentation. My problem: I have absolutely no experience teaching. I have no clue on where to start or what to do. Can you guys give me some pointers on what to do, where to start? Perhaps sites I can check out? I have also heard that language institutes sometimes don't require certifications, but that may just be overseas. I heard Latin/Central America is pretty strict about it. Anyways, any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm literally in the dark....

It's not a question that can be answered very effectively in an online post. Sorry - but it's really why the minimum start-up cert takes 120+ hours....that's how long it would take someone to effectively answer your question, and for you to demonstrate your level of understanding of it!

If you're willing to wing it with students without training - well, you've got to be able to successfully wing it with the people doing the hiring first.

First, ask for their book or copies of a chapter so you have something to work with.

Then remember to speak slowly enough

Do comp checks.

Smile

Good luck, you should be fine

Latin America is pretty flexible about degrees, etc. Only one out of the 6 places I worked for even asked to see my degree. NONE asked for my TEFL cert. And I was there nearly 6 years.
