I was so happy when, a few months ago, I discovered a recycling drop-off behind the Spinney's near the Emirates Palace side of the Corniche. My husband and I collected all our (and some of our neighbours') cans, bottles, plastics and paper packaging, then made sure that our recycling runs coincided with our pork/booze runs to Spinney's.

It was disappointing, to say the least, when we arrived there last Saturday, and found that the recycling drop-off was no more!

Does anyone know of any other place that we can bring our recyclables to? We're still collecting it: We simply refuse to be a part of the waste and litter problem here!

We separate our cans and bottles and put them by the dumpster to be picked up by industrious individuals who recycle them in some shape or form. They never sit for more than a few hours before being picked up. I know friends who do this all over the Emirates.

Only recycling that I'm aware of is for flunked out administrators.

On a more serious note ----

I think the recycling bins behind Etisalat were moved for the new recycling scheme:

Ugh - that article is dated from November 2009. Has anyone actually *seen* a green bin/black bin system at all? Is it even enforced? Or is this another prime example of lip service and image without any substance?

It's encouraging that there *is* some awareness happening regarding styrofoam containers and plastic bags, but honestly, we're talking about things that are already tried and true in every other 1st world nation. There really is no excuse (besides sheer laziness) for the amount of garbage, litter, bags, containers, packaging....
