Just to continue a question I brought up on the UAE page.

In terms of career prospects I am interested in asking if job prospects would be better in Gulf with an MA Applied Linguistics or an MBA (for content positions etc) ?

I have more experience in EFL but I have a business background and have taught corporate courses not just business english...

Just a thought....

Thanks, but I think those pages are for people looking to work in finance , etc. I'm looking for teaching positions. I'm more interested in prospects in these areas in Gulf.

an mba is to prepare you for a career in business
it is not a degree that teaches you how to teach business skills, english or anything else

Having the MBA alone won't get you a good tertiary job (or probably any) in content. They are also looking for industry experience - everyone in the business program I've ever met have worked in industry for 10 - 15 years before coming to HCT.

Thanks . I know what an MBA is. My point was that if you had teaching experience in EFL and Business experience then would an MBA be of use in getting you a tertiary job in Gulf. I have many years in both areas as I have ran my own organisation and also taught corporate courses. What I dont have is either an MA Applied Linguistics or an MBA. I know this is rather convuluted, but thanks everyone!

Oh, you never know which member of the proofreading patrol will turn up.

You can edit your posts, you know. In the upper right corner of each entry, there is a button that says "edit." I use it all the time. Cool

I am not sure that I understand what the OP means by "content positions". In KSA management roles are increasingly held by locals and they will probably be given preference over a "Frank".

Having an MBA in itself is not much of a qualification for teaching Business Admin courses. For that you would need substantial experience.

Stick to teaching - do an MA in Teflology.

Naw, I don't jump on typos, as even this baking sheikh makes them. What does irritate me--even though I suppose it shouldn't--is when "English" instructors write something like "...definately loosing..." (This was an actual post, where the poster meant to write "definitely losing.")

I know that literally 2/3 of non-English majors all over the internet confuse "lose" with "loose" but I don't understand why it should be that difficult for a degreed and qualified English teacher. I've seen it twice in these pages by two different people, apparently native speakers.

SnB I agree with you on the lose and loose thing - and I'm not an EFL teacher (it's just a pet peeve).
